Since 2010, Jenny Kasen has provided legal representation to debtors, creditors, and other stakeholders in connection with Chapter 7, Chapter 11, Chapter 12, and Chapter 13 bankruptcy proceedings filed in the United States Bankruptcy Courts for the District of New Jersey, District of Delaware, Eastern District of Pennsylvania, and Southern District of Florida.
Ms. Kasen’s practice emphasizes litigation in a wide array of contested matters, including but not limited to: Chapter 11 first day motions, claim objections, motions to confirm or modify plans, motions to avoid liens, cramdown/strip off motions, § 363 sale motions, motions to assume or reject executory contracts, post-confirmation motions, and sanctions motions related to stay violations. She also handles adversary proceedings such as objections to discharge/dischargeability, preference and fraudulent transfer actions, turnover demands, and lien avoidance. Additionally, she frequently appears in valuation disputes and other contested evidentiary matters.
Ms. Kasen also possesses significant experience representing property owners in mortgage modification proceedings, foreclosure avoidance matters including deeds-in-lieu, relocation assistance, short sales, and related negotiations.
She is board-certified as a specialist in consumer bankruptcy law by the American Board of Certification, accredited by the American Bar Association. Ms. Kasen has been recognized as a “New Jersey Super Lawyer Rising Star,” an honor awarded to only 2.5% of attorneys in the state based on peer nomination and professional achievement.
Ms. Kasen received her undergraduate degree from Muhlenberg College in 2006. She earned her law degree from Rutgers University School of Law in 2010. While in law school, she served as a judicial intern to the Honorable Judith H. Wizmur of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey and later to the Honorable Christopher S. Sontchi of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.
Ms. Kasen is admitted to practice in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Florida. She is also admitted to the U.S. District Courts for the District of New Jersey, the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the District of Delaware, and the Southern District of Florida. Additionally, she is an active member of the New Jersey and Delaware Bankruptcy American Inns of Court.
Only 2.5% of attorneys in the state are named Super Lawyers Rising Star each year. The designation is granted to attorneys who demonstrate the highest levels of legal ability and integrity as determined by their peers and independent research. The multiphase research process, performed annually, consists of a statewide survey of lawyers, independent evaluation of candidates by the attorney-led research staff, a peer review of candidates by practice area and a good-standing and disciplinary check.
